WHAT IS TEAM BUILDING?
Everybody knows that team building is a must for every company with a vision to grow. Team building is a concept that originated in the U.S.A. It is a process of turning a group of individuals into a team, equipped with skills such as communication, trust, planning and honesty. The productivity of a well developed team can be astonishing.

WHY does team building work?
Different mediums of learning can be used. The one we believe to be the best, is the medium of experiential learning. We as people gain info through our senses, and that is how we learn. In the conference set-up for example, only two senses are used, namely sight and hearing. Through experiential learning all five senses can be used to their full potential. Not only that, since most of the activities are problem solving, success or failure can also be experienced, which means that emotions are involved. In this way you not only learn, but you experience things for yourself and understand them better.

What can we offer?
The Adventure Centre can offer you a dynamic team-building program. With 8 years experience we believe we have a good programme to benefit your company. Different programs for different management levels have been put together. A program can run from a day, for lower management, to a weekend for top management.
What sets us apart from other companies is the fact that we can offer you incentive activities as well, not just team building. For example:
River Rafting Trips, Skydiving, White Shark Cage Diving, Weekends in the Cederberg or the Garden Route, 4x4 routes, 4x4 training and many more.
These activities can be combined with team building activities or can be enjoyed on their own. Taylor made packages can be put together to meet your needs.

Venue
The venue for the teambuilding or incentive can be supplied by the client or by The Adventure Centre. The venue will obviously determine the type of activities that can be used and to what extend. We have a wide range of venues suitable for most demands put upon a teambuilding day or weekend.
Different types of accommodation are also available where needed. Most overnight venues also have conference facilities available. The client will also have the option to include meals in the teambuilding day/s. The food will always be of a high quality, from snacks, spitbraai to a 3 course meal!! Beverages can also be organised through The Adventure Centre.

TEAMBUILDING ACTIVITIES
GENERAL EXPERIENTIAL TEAMBUILDING DAY
There are literally hundreds of teambuilding activities that can be used to achieve different objectives and outcomes. The type of activity used will depend on the following factors.

Here are just a few types of teambuilding activities available.

Each activity takes approximately 30 minutes
Price per activity is R30.00 per person
When you work on a time schedule just remember that the introduction, going through the safety procedures, icebreaker and the closing at the end of the day takes approximately 1½ hours. This is included in the price.

STELLENBOSCH AMAZING RACE
The concept is based on the TV program Amazing Race. Teams race against each other and points are subtracted or added on certain tasks or bonuses that must be completed along the way.

Your Programme
We will start the day with a fun ice-breaker activity and a short briefing. We will hand out starter packs with information and objects essential for the race. (Disposable camera, drinks & snacks also in the starter packs)
The group will then be divided into teams before we start the race. (Management has the option to divide the group in teams before the race day.)

The race will be in the Historical part of town where you will have to do map reading and orienteering to find different clues and answers in historic buildings and places of interest around town. There will also be problem solving and teambuilding activities plus a surprise “fear factor” item included in the race at some of the stations. While doing all these activities and challenges, you will move through beautiful Stellenbosch and learn quite a bit of this amazing town and it’s history.

There will also be a bonus station on the map that is not a compulsory stop but you will get bonus points if you reach this station in the time allowed for the race. For the bonus station, only 2 team members have to reach the point while the rest of the team wait or rest.

The distance covered during the race will depend on the skill and route of the individual teams but the shortest distance between all the stations plus the bonus station will be approximately 4km.
The tempo of the race will depend on the teams themselves, the team must however stick together at all times (except at bonus station) to avoid disqualification. Only a relative state of fitness is therefore required from each team member! (If you can walk 4-5 km in 2 ½ to 3 hours, you can do this!!) For the trim and fit individuals in the team, there are always the bonus points to go for!

All teams have to be back at the finish point (will be indicated on the map) at finish time indicated on day, regardless of stations reached.
We will then have time to relax and enjoy lunch / supper while discussing the day’s ordeals!! (Cash Bar). After lunch we will have a small prize giving before you depart at own leisure.

4x4 ADVENTURE DAY
Come and join us for excitement from the comfort of a 4x4 vehicle. The day will start with a short briefing of what can be expected and how the day is going to work and some instruction on how to handle a 4x4 vehicle in certain conditions.

We will then divide the group into teams of 4-5 per vehicle and then we will test our skills on a 4x4 track. Each team member will get a chance to do the driving while our professional instructors are close at hand for any problem that you might have.

Obstacles include steep accent and descents, water crossings when available, single track navigation, sand obstacles etc. After the driving has been completed we will get together for a drink and lunch or dinner at the lapa.

Duration of the activity will depend on the size and time constraints of the group but will normally last from a half to a full day.

INFLATABLE TEAMBUILDING ACTIVITIES
This brand new type of teambuilding activity is also to our disposal.
Giant Foosball comprises of an inflatable perimeter wall and goal posts. Various games are available which are suitable for both big and small groups. Players have to be physically capable, however fitness is not a pre-requisite. The different games we are able to organise all provide great fun for both the players and spectators while they build relationships and learn to interact with each other as a team
*Giant Foosball: Players are able to only move from side to side as they are attached to each other with ropes and harnesses. The teams has to overcome their restrictions by synchronising their movements. Teamwork is essential to get to the ball and to pass the ball between team members while trying to score a goal.
*Blind Ball: Half the team is able to see but they are not allowed to touch the ball. The sighted players have to direct the blindfolded players as they try and score a goal. Clear communication, trust and support are a couple of key elements that become apparent as the teams starts to play.
*Giant Marbles: The Goon is placed in the middle of the field the teams objective is to knock the Goon to the opposition’s side while standing outside of the field using only the balls provided. Patience, persistence, strategy and adaptability are essential.
Min 14 People
We now bring you ‘Adventure Cricket’. This is a dynamic new game designed for groups who would like to tap into the ‘ Fever’ and at the same time experience some fun in the sun. The unique rules, even the playing field, allow for full participation and the specially designed ‘Adventure Pitch’ allow for an action packed experience to really get your pulse racing!
All these activities come with a powerful sound system and game instructors.

Ready steady Potjiekos!
This product is based on the programme “Ready, steady cook”.
The Group is divided into teams. Each team will be given a specific theme for their production. Teams will then have a cooking contest against each other. The teams will have a budget to “buy” some ingredients, supplied by us, and then a certain amount of time will be given to complete the task of making the best possible Potjie, or original exquisite dish!!

While the food is cooking, teams will spend their time by designing and making a décor applicable to their specific theme, for the presentation of their meal. We will supply material, paint and tools that teams can use to make such a décor.

Each team member will have to be involved as points will be allocated for team involvement, presentation, originality, and of course, taste!!!

PRESENTATION OF THE TEAMBUILDING / INCENTIVE DAY
There are few different ways to present a activity day. Once again this will depend on the objectives to be achieved, group size and the type of activities available.
If the group is small, it could be beneficial to let everybody do the same activity at the same time, this is however not always possible with bigger groups and here we make use of the following presentation techniques to make the day go as smooth and with as little time wasting as possible.
Stations: Depending on group size we will make a few stations with a different activity at each station. The group gets divided in smaller cells and these rotate between the stations.
Race: The whole day can be developed into a race format where the clients get divided in teams and compete against each other and against the clock.
Game: The group gets divided in teams that compete against each other.

A TYPICAL TEAMBUILDING DAY
A one-day Teambuilding intervention could include the following: (Please note that this is only a guide and can be customized to suit your needs)
Welcome, introduction and explanation of the day’s proceedings

Discussion of the Full Value Contract.

All activities will be facilitated in order to transfer optimal learning from the experiences.
Where possible, we do a climate study of our clients working environment, this greatly helps us in providing the best possible product. All information obtained during the climate study and during the teambuilding will be treated as confidential. Please note that the climate study is not compulsory and is entirely up to the client’s discretion.
