10 Day Garden Route Self- drive Itinerary
Day 1: Stellenbosch / Cape Town to Garden Route Game Lodge Albertinia.
Depart the wine region of Stellenbosch and follow the scenic N2 routewhich winds over the Overberg Mountains and Sir Lowry’s Pass towards your overnight Destination – The Garden Route Game Lodge!
Accommodation: Garden Route Game Lodge where you will be treated with an African experience.
You will go on an evening Game drive, then dinner at the Boma, before retiring to your relaxing room on the Game Reserve. Next morning you will go on another morning game drive, have breakfast, and then visit to the Reptile centre and Cheetah Conservation Centre..
- Day 2 and 3: Stay 2 Nights in Wilderness
- Stay over in Wilderness for 2 nights and enjoy this little relaxing town by the sea. From here you can do many activities or just relax at the Beach, the choice is yours.

What to do in Wilderness area: Visit Pilli Pilli Adventures in Sedgefield for Kitesurfing, wakeboarding and much more water sport, Canoeing Trips, Surfing, Boogie boarding, Hike the Kingfisher trail, Mountain biking, Paraglide or hand-glide from the launch spots at the Map of Africa, Horse riding: sunset beach rides or forest treks, Wilderness Lagoon Sunset Canoe Cruise
- Day 4 and 5: Wilderness to Knysna
- All too soon Nature’s Playground beckons – Knysna! You will stay 2 days in the heart of the Garden Route with indigenous forests on the one side and beautifull ocean on the other. Knysna is well know for its Oysters, its indigenous forests, where some say, wild elephants still roam and the Knysna Heads, the tricky exit into the sea from the Lagoon where many a ship has faultered in the early years.

What to do in Knysna area: Abseiling the Knysna Heads, Paragliding, Quad biking in the forests, Great hikes in the forests, Wake boarding and Kitesurfing at Pilli Pilli Adventures in Sedgefield, Sea Kayaking, Horse riding, Boat rides, Night booze cruises, the Feather Bird Nature Reserve, Paddle cruises.
- Day 6: Knysna to Tsitsikama:
- Not having to travel too far, Tsitsikama awaits to be explored.Here you really feel like you are living in the middle of a forest with magical charm. The sea is also a short drive away and make sure to visit Storm River Mouth Village. It is a small village that has much to offer the nature lover.
Accommodation: Tannenhof Guest Farm, stay in one of the log-cabins with its own bathroom and outside deck. Enjoy the majestic mountain view with spectacular sunsets. Included: Breakfast
What to do in Tsitsikamma: Mountain biking – canopy tours – horse and hiking trails (including the renowned Otter trail) and forest walks are all on your doorstep. Also the Big Tree, Tsitsikamma Adventure Falls and quad bikes, bungy jump, and next to the Otter trail the suspension bridge. Black water tubing; Guided forest rides, Horse trails.
Day 7 and 8 Tsitsikama to Oudtshoorn- For a change of scenery, from the abundant greenery to the farmlands of the interior – the ostrich capital awaits, Oudtshoorn.This is a great base to explore the famous Swartberg Mountains and the Cango Caves. Really an amazing sight of a cave system unequiled in the world. Ride an Ostrich and experience ostrich farming first hand. Maybe an ostrich egg for breakfast??

What to do in Outshooren: Visit the Safari Ostrich Show Farm,Venture the Cango Caves, Visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch, Ride an Ostrich, Taste real Ostrich: eggs & meat, Hiking & Biking, Numerous rivers, streams & falls have their origins in the surrounding Swartberg, Outeniqua, Kamanassie mountain ranges
Day 9 and 10: Oudtshoorn to Stellenbosch- Before leaving South Africa, a 2 day stay in the heart of the Winelands, Stellenbosch. From here you can explore the multitude of beautiful winefarms in the region. Stellenbosch also has 3 of the top 10 Restaurants in South Africa! Stellenbosch is a great base to visit Franschhoek, Cape Town and Cape Point by yourself or with a guided Tour. You can choose to stay in a guesthouse, Hotel or on a Wine estate.
